Investing Thesis

I like to invest $10k as the first money into a company (typically part of the first SAFE, most of the time this is $500K-$1.5M total round size). If you aren’t ready for $500K or more and I like the company I am happy to spend 3–6 months helping to prepare you for your first investment. I focus on B2B Saas with a strong technical team (66% of the team is product or eng). I like to invest in picks and shovels supporting the businesses of the future. My focus is on companies with founders living in NYC.
I no longer invest in D2C, Hardware, Tech-enabled, Consumer, Proptech, or Health directly. For deals outside my focus, I am an LP in several other pre-seed and seed funds which I will be happy to intro.

I have now made 142 investments.

I want to talk to founders building companies that support how I think the next 10 years will change

  • Web3 is here now and there will be multiple unicorns build supporting the Web3 version of the internet.
NFTs are starting to become mainstream with NBA, DC Comics, Celebrities, and ‘normal people’ buying NFTs. Beyond NFTs, the use cases for crypto are becoming broader.
Bitcoin, Etherium, and other coins are being added to Robinhood & Public giving mainstream access to these tokens. a16z has a fund dedicated to this space. Why Web3 matters? — Chris Dixon
The tokens are transitioning from currency to platforms for developers to build on.

Portfolio Example — Vincent

  • Future of Commerce — I want to invest in companies that will help bring forward the next 10 years of e-commerce
People under 30 check email <2 times a week.
Shopify has created a new ecosystem for D2C and companies building inside that ecosystem and/or ‘Shopify of X’ unlock a quick GTM
SMS/DMs are replacing email & device IDs.

Portfolio Example — Attentive

  • A major transition is happening in the Cloud Data Ecosystem led by companies like Snowflake helping companies rebuild their Data Pipeline
Snowflake & BigQuery have proven that they can convert large companies to the cloud and build out a new pipeline to make data accessible much faster. Ecosystem
Building a modern data pipeline in the cloud is hard so companies will need partners to help build out their data pipelines.

Portfolio Example — Estuary & mParticle

  • The future of social/remote is private & built on deep connections — Looking to invest in companies helping build deep connections.
The pandemic forced us all to adopt zoom calls and to connect with our friends, family, and coworkers.
Remote / semi-remote is here to stay, building companies that can help people build deep connections digitally are going to win, I want to invest in companies helping to do this.
In consumer, the NFT space is also making this happen — Check out https://twitter.com/LazyLionsNFT

Portfolio Example — Talk.social

I still like companies in the creator economy, martech, adtech, and no code and will take meetings.
