Setting An Impossible Goal

In 2016 running 1:44:02 for a half marathon was impossible. I had trouble running under 10 minutes per mile.

In May 2021 Kayla and I signed up for the 2021 NYC Marathon and shortly thereafter we began 3x a week training with John Henwood and Mile High Run Club and we continued running after that through to the United Half on Sunday.

Marathon Training with Mile High Run Club

For the last year, on most Saturdays since July we have had a long run with a pacer leaving at Mile High UES and exploring NYC. From Randalls Island to Lighthouse across the carriage paths and along the aqueduct we ran NYC.

Most Friday’s I ran at 9am up and down the west side highway with my pitch and run fam.

On Tuesday I trained with Mike Maloney typically followed by Y7 Yoga on Sundays.

In November I ran my first marathon.

On a whim, with the goal of keeping in race shape, I applied to the NYC United Half and got in. My new goal was to PR.

On Sunday I ran under 8 minutes (7.5 mph) for 1 hour 44 minutes, a feat that at 240 lbs was an impossible task.

Running has become a healthy way of life for me and Kayla.

Not sure what the next challenge will be but I’m looking forward to finding out.
